Email Safety

Watch out for your inbox.

Email is an invaluable everyday tool in our business and personal lives. Unfortunately it can also be a method for transmitting viruses and other malicious software to your computer. Here are a few tips to keep your identity and computer safe when using email.

Practice email safety.

  • As your financial services provider, BlueShore Financial will never send you an email asking for account numbers, passwords or personal information . If you ever receive an email that appears to be from us asking for this type of information, please let us know. Read more about reporting fraud.
  • Use caution before answering online and email requests for your personal information. We’ll never send you unsolicited emails or present you with unexpected web pages asking for any personal information or ask you to validate or restore your account access through unsolicited email. Report any suspicious requests to us immediately at 604.982.8000.
  • Do not provide confidential personal or banking information to anyone in an e-mail.
  • Be skeptical of links to websites . Rather than clicking on a link within an email message, copy the URL and paste it into your browser. Sometimes the underlying URL is different from what appears in the email message.
  • Be suspicious of email attachments from unknown sources . If you don’t know or recognize the sender, don’t open the attachment.
  • Delete SPAM (unsolicited email, a.k.a. junk mail).
    • Never reply to spam even if there is an "unsubscribe" option (you’re just verifying they‘ve found a good address).
    • Enable your email software's spam filtering features.
    • Don’t post your email address on any web page.
    • Use a free email account address (e.g., or when filling out web forms.
    • When filling out a web form, uncheck the box indicating you would like "additional information" or "production information from related vendors."
  • Be aware of phishing, brand spoofing and other email scams . Phishing attacks use 'spoofed' (look-alike) email messages and fraudulent websites designed to fool recipients into divulging personal financial data such as credit card numbers, account usernames and passwords, social insurance numbers (SIN), etc. Customers are led to believe the request is from a real company when in fact it is a malicious attempt to collect customer information for the purpose of committing fraud. Never provide sensitive personal or financial information. If you suspect you have been targeted by an email scam, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
