Using Business Online Banking to make tax payments

You can submit a variety of required business tax payments to the CRA using Business Online Banking. These include:

  • GST/HST payments (Form 34, RC 159 and RC 160 forms)
  • Corporate tax installments
  • Payroll and source deductions (current year) business tax payments.

Set up CRA account(s)

Before you make your first payment, you will need to set up your CRA account information. After logging in to Business Online Banking, click Add Account for the specific type of account you want to pay, enter your CRA business number, and click the Add Account button.

You will now be ready to file and pay your business taxes online:

  • Click on Payments in the left-hand menu.
  • Click on Pay business taxes.

To delete an account, click Delete Account beside the account you want to be deleted. Then confirm.

GST/HST payments

The forms you must complete online correspond to the hard copy of your GST forms. GST Form 34 allows you to file GST/HST owing to the CRA with or without remitting a payment; GST Form 58 is used to remit a payment.

RC Forms are used to make remittances to CRA, regardless of whether you have filed the information with CRA:

  • RC 159 GST Amounts Owing Remittance Voucher
  • RC 160 GST Interim Payment Remittance Voucher

Future-dated payments

As with other bill payments in Online Banking, you can set up future-dated CRA payments. If you cancel a future-dated GST 34 payment, the filing information will still be sent to CRA even though the payment itself will be canceled. If a non-GST 34 payment is canceled, no information will be sent to the CRA.

If there are insufficient funds in the source account when the future-dated payment is to be made, no payment will be made. If the payment was a GST 34 payment, the filing information will still be sent to the CRA.

Tracing a payment and other issues

When you make a payment, you will be provided with a tracking number. If you need to trace a payment and it is greater than $1,000 we can trace it for you. If it is $1,000 or less, you will need to contact CRA directly.

If for some reason the bill payment system is unavailable at the time of a payment, the payment will not be allowed and you may need to re-enter the information at a later date.

If the payment is successful, but the CRA system unavailable, the payment will be made, but the status of the filing or remittance will be unknown. You will be notified to contact your branch. If the message was not sent to the CRA, the funds will be returned to your account within 2-4 business days.
