Three funding programs

We give back in three ways. First is through our philanthropic donation program, which gives financial support to non-profit organizations and charities that provide services and programs to the communities we serve and support our wellness philosophy.

Secondly, we support our communities through our sponsorship program, which fosters a mutually beneficial relationship with community organizations. The organization receives support through cash, in-kind gifts and/or volunteer assistance, and BlueShore Financial benefits through opportunities to increase awareness and build our brand.

Thirdly, we contribute funds to the Credit Union Foundation of BC to support its student scholarship and bursary program.

BlueShore Financial donates funds to non-profit and charitable organizations for a wide range of initiatives that support financial, physical, environmental and community wellness.

Our corporate commitment as an Imagine Canada company means we contribute a minimum of 1% of our pre-tax profits to create stronger, more vibrant communities. While the minimum is 1%, we typically exceed that annually.

Criteria

Organizations must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for a BlueShore Financial donation:

  • Be a non-profit organization (not necessarily a registered charity)
  • Serve one or more of the BlueShore Financial trade areas (Burnaby, Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, or Pemberton)
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility
  • Provide evidence of financial need
  • Have a committed Board of Directors
  • Allow BlueShore Financial to report and/or publicize the donation if requested
Guidelines

The majority of projects should support wellness within the geographic areas described and be of benefit to a significant number of people; however, BlueShore Financial also provides funds to address emergency situations or special needs. Projects must be free of political, religious, racial, or gender bias.

In general, the BlueShore Financial Donation Program provides grants in the range of $500 to $10,000.

The following will typically not be considered for support:

  • Requests to benefit one individual or a team
  • Travel expenses
  • Religious organizations unless they are engaged in a significant project benefitting the entire community
  • Those targeted at specific religious, social, political, or economic points of view, or are considered controversial in nature

Each year, student scholarships are made available to qualifying BC Credit Union members and other BC residents through the Credit Union Foundation of BC. In addition to being a BC resident, applicants must be a post-secondary student in need of financial assistance for academic, technological, or vocational training at accredited BC.

Awards are also given to mature students upgrading their basic education and skills to allow them to enter the workforce.
While many of the bursaries are available to students in any program of studies, a few take specific criteria into consideration.

For more details and to apply, visit the Credit Union Foundation of BC website.
